How to Find the Right Ink or Toner for Your Printer

Identify the correct printer consumable by printer model, original cartridge code, printer technology, colour and supported models.

Step 1: Identify your complete printer model
Look for the model printed on the printer's front, rear or settings screen. Record its entire identifier, including suffixes such as DN, DW or Plus. A model family can contain multiple machines that accept different supplies. The brand alone is not precise enough.
Step 2: Check whether it needs ink or toner
Inkjet printers usually need liquid ink cartridges or ink tanks. Laser and LED printers normally need toner and sometimes a separate drum unit. Read your manual or existing supply label if uncertain. An ink cartridge cannot replace a toner cartridge.
Step 3: Read the original cartridge number
If you can access the current cartridge through the ordinary manufacturer-approved replacement procedure, read and record the complete printed code, including letters and suffixes. Note the colour: standard black and photo black are not necessarily interchangeable. Do not open a toner housing or handle leaking ink.
Step 4: Account for regional or model differences
Manufacturers sometimes use different cartridge references across markets, printer generations or hardware revisions. A cartridge that looks identical in a photograph may not be accepted by your printer. Use the Canadian printer model and the appropriate compatible printer list to confirm.
Step 5: Choose standard or high yield
When both are supported, compare total price, rated page yield and expected printing frequency. A higher-yield product may make sense for offices with regular text output; occasional users should compare their actual needs. Page yield is measured under test conditions and will vary with coverage and usage.
Step 6: Verify the product page before checkout
Search iTEKcanada using the complete printer model or cartridge reference, then open a specific listing and read its compatible-model table. For instance, Brother TN-660 toner and HP 564XL photo black ink are both in the current catalog, but each has a separate compatibility list.
Step 7: Ask when anything is uncertain
Before ordering an uncertain part, contact support with the full printer model, the old cartridge number and a photo of its intact label. This is more reliable than guessing based on shape or packaging colour.
Start with the correct collection
Browse all toner cartridges, Canon ink cartridges, HP ink cartridges or Brother toner cartridges. Always verify the precise model on the chosen product page.
